People! I have a porpoise!

October 30, 2009

Yes!

I’ve actually come up with a purpose for this blog. Things that cheer you up. Or cheer me up, anyway.  Up until now it’s sort of been about that anyway, what with the Ball of Trumpets, Marzipus (which I STILL haven’t eaten), and my Lame Observational Humour. I won’t actually be doing much of that I don’t think, because of my increasing awareness of how unfunny I am. The illustration was ace though!

So, things to cheer you up. I will start shortly. Yay.

I love you. Bye.

Lesbian hands

March 1, 2008

That’s lesbian hands, not lesbian ham.

I have lesbian hands, I just heard something on Russell Brand’s Radio 2 show about it, my ring finger is much longer than my index finger, which means I am a giant lezzer.

I found this old article about it.

Yay.

Ball of trumpets

February 23, 2008

Ball of trumpets! Oh yes!

I found this ball of trumpets on the background image of this blog: Further: Strange Attractor & beyond (which is quite good).

What’s it all about then? The ball of trumpets? It’s BRILLIANT. I love it. It reminds me of something I saw many years ago, when I was a nipper, possibly in some strange foreign animation on Channel Four, but it’s only a half memory, like something from a feverish childhood hallucination (we couldn’t afford Calpol). It makes me feel strange. I like it very much.

Someone’s going to tell me it’s a Victorian botanist’s impression of an organism that causes an STD, aren’t they.

Update!

Mark Pilkington, editor of Further: Strange Attractor & beyond, reveals all:

“The ball of trumpets is actually an engraving of a rhabdosphere from a nice Victorian encyclopedia I have called ‘The World of Wonders’ – they’re surface dwelling plankton-like critters”

I found some pictures of the genus rhabdosphaera on Google, but couldn’t find a trumpety species. I did however find the awesomely trumpety “Discosphaera tubifera” at the Natural History Museum Picture Library

Discosphaera tubifera
DISCO!

Plankton is ace.

Bwahahahaha!

Someone found my blog by searching for “fry laurie flecked with urine and vomit”. My work here is done.

Marzipus

marzipus.jpg

I got this marzipus from Amato in Old Compton Street. I think they thought I was ill, I squealed very loudly when I saw him. No way was I going to eat him. Mainly because I was already full of real octopus (see upcoming post!!).

The Mighty Boosh series three

December 11, 2007

This is my review.

It’s like if I watched series one and two on a loop all weekend, then took some magic mushrooms and tripped series three.

There was never any doubt on my part, but they’ve well and truly surpassed themselves this time. Oh yes.

“Heyyy”

I just saw this on Cute Overload, and it very effectively relieved my post-work fug:

It’s originally from Channel 101, but easier to share on YouTube. :)

Hot Fuzz

June 9, 2007

hot and fuzzies

Just watched Hot Fuzz on DVD. Really wanted to see it at the cinema but cinemas stress me out. I won’t go into why, as describing my social anxieties will just make you hate me.

Hot Fuzz was awesome. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be, because how would they live up to Shaun of the Dead? Well they managed it. I laughed out loud frequently, at one point so loudly that it set the neighbour’s dog off. There are so many references and jokes and homages and stuff, it’s going to stand up to multiple watchings easily. It’s also very twisty, I couldn’t have predicted the end at all. It has that same feel as Shaun, where it gets pretty ridiculous but still manages to keep you engaged with the drama. So much so that when the jokes happen you laugh even harder. There were some awesome perfomances as well, pretty much everyone was someone. Adam Buxton was fantastic, he has a really gory death in the film, which he should be very proud of. But he is a brilliant character actor and I hope he gets more roles on the strength of this.

I got the Special Edition 2 disc version, so I have heaps of extras to watch. Including four commentaries! That’s why I love Pegg, Wright and Frost so much, they understand their audience. I adore DVD commentaries, and outtakes, and all the other stuff. Cheered me right up this has.

I dun a film review! Yayzers!
